We have a theory that social platforms operate like a parasite. In the same way a parasite can send signals to our brains to crave specific things like pork, sugar, and fat, the daily pulses of social platforms send signals to our brains to buy this, eat that, like this, and hate that, etc.
85% of GenZ’s buying decisions are impacted by social media, and more often than not, those purchases are bought with the intent to post about it. If you break it down, social media is manipulating consumers’ bodies as meat mannequins to perpetuate the system.
Given Facebook/Instagram/Meta is now an advertising platform, the toxicity of the parasite is reaching dangerous levels. Is it even a social network anymore?
Here are some names we suggest for a Meta sci-fi feature:
Soul Snatcher
Bank Leech
Anya Asano, 2024
Not only this, but a recent phenomenon proved just how toxic the virtual world has become when a countless number of people took to TikTok to cosplay about seeing 8-10 foot aliens in Miami.
Is it the pursuit of clout, clicks, or consideration? Or is it the parasite on another viral spree?
Elon Musk claims we are all already cyborgs, but it’s not clear that we are all equipped to master the super computer in our hands. Lest we forget the super computer we have under our skull.
Sci-fi is the genre of 2024. But we don’t need to go see Dune, or Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga to get the kick. It’s right outside and in the palm of our hand.
